New Innovation Adviser at University of Leicester appointed

SPRINT has appointed Vinay Patel as its new Innovation Adviser for partner university, the University of Leicester.

Vinay has worked at the University since 2014 when he joined the School of Engineering. In this time, he has worked in a variety of roles including Experimental Officer & Manager of the Advanced Microscopy Facility, Acting Director of the Advanced Microscopy Centre and Academic Lead for Mechanics of Materials Laboratory.

Vinay started his career at the Materials Engineering Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam University in 2007 as a Senior Analytical Officer supporting various materials characterisation analytical equipment and engaging in various consultancy activities. Since then, he has worked on over 300 failure analysis, materials testing, innovation and research jobs for a wide range of industrial partners, saving or generating millions of pounds for those companies. He is a Chartered Scientist and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, as well as a member of the Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining.

Martin Barstow, Principal Investigator of the SPRINT programme said: “The Innovation Adviser role at each of our five partner universities is key to matching business and technological requirements with the expertise and capabilities on offer from their respective university. Vinay’s appointment will help SPRINT and the University of Leicester as we continue to support the growth of the UK space sector.

“Vinay brings a proven track record of developing new innovative products in the engineering and aerospace industry to the role, as well as forging successful partnerships with industry and academia to secure external funding.”
